Corporate Controller

Location: Rockport - Hanley Center
Status: Full-time

SUMMARY
Managing the accounting department with overall responsibility for SEC and bank regulatory reporting, strong internal controls and the effective operation of the day to day accounting function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Coordinate the compilation and filing of SEC reports (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 11-K, 8-K, 3, 4, & 5) and other regulatory reporting, including reports to the Federal Reserve Bank, FDIC and OCC.

Direct the activities of the Accounting Department; maintain written policies and procedures; develop goals and standards for the department. Manage the following areas: accounts payable, regulatory reporting, general ledger, reconciliations and fixed assets.

Formulate and administer the monthly financial close. Supervise accounting staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Ensure that strong internal controls are maintained and assist in SOX 404 compliance. Act as resource and provide training to line areas on internal control activities.

Monitor, review and assess impact of relevant FASB, SEC and other regulatory guidance to ensure compliance. Work with external accountants, legal counsel and regulators.

Work with the other two divisions of the Finance area, Treasury (investments, liquidity, and interest rate risk) and Planning (budget, forecasting, and profitability).

Mentor and develop staff.

Perform other duties and special projects as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES
Oversees Accounting Department group of five to six. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Certified Public Accountant and at least three years related experience in technical FASB, SEC and financial reporting work. Banking experience a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as technical accounting standards and financial statements. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence and operational procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, Board of Directors, customers, and the general public.

P/C SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
User knowledge of all computer applications including, but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Novell GroupWise or any other widely used software as obtained by the Company. Expertise in these applications must be present at hire or quickly and easily developed after hire.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
