CAMDEN, Maine, February 8, 2006 - Camden National Bank is introducing the implementation of new security enhancements for all online banking customers, effective in early 2007.
"Given the heightened awareness surrounding fraud and identity theft," says Camden National Bank Security Officer Dan Swindler, "we want to make every Camden National online banking experience as secure as possible. As a result, we are introducing new security features that may prompt our customers to confirm customized security checks for their accounts, should we detect anything out of the ordinary."
At Camden National Bank, the layered customized security checks are designed to detect uncharacteristic or unusual activities involved in customers' online accounts. "Customers tend to have normal patterns of activity in how, when and from where they use online banking," explains Swindler. "For example, if a customer usually logs on from central Maine and suddenly appears to log on from central China, this may prompt a series of questions, which are known only to the customer, to confirm their identity."
Another security feature layered into the Camden National Bank login process will be a Personal Image. With this feature, customers will choose an image that will appear on their login screen each time they log into their accounts. This personally selected image will provide assurance to customers that they are logging on to the genuine Camden National Bank Web site and not a fraudulent Web site that may be impersonating Camden National Bank. Notes Swindler, "The Personal Image will provide our customers with added protection against fraudulent or illegitimate practices known as phishing or pharming."
