Kingfield Community Hosts 6th Annual POPS
Sixth annual Kingfield POPS brings talented artists and musicians including the Kruger Brothers and Bangor Symphony Orchestra to the western mountains of Maine - 5/8/2008
KINGFIELD, Maine - On Saturday, June 28, the Town of Kingfield will celebrate the sixth annual Kingfield POPS event with a day-long downtown arts festival and a live outdoor concert in the evening, followed by a dazzling display of fireworks. This fun, family-style celebration is a community effort committed to providing high quality arts events and musical enrichment, especially for area youth.
The popular downtown arts festival features exhibits and crafts from more than 35 artists and artisans and continuous live local music from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fresh lemonade, homemade pies and other delicious foods will be available throughout the day.
Held once again at the Kennedy Farm on Route 142 in Kingfield, this year's evening concert program includes the return of some of the POPS most popular musical performers. Nadia and Jocko, Jeff Beedy's band, will kick off the evening with acoustical blues and original soul; they delighted all who heard them at last year's Downtown Festival. The Edith Jones Project, an all-women's jazz band that brought the crowd to its feet in 2005, returns to the stage as well. The Bangor Symphony Orchestra's Brass and Percussion Ensembles will thrill the audience with rousing patriotic tunes. The world-renowned Kruger Brothers, who thrilled the crowd at the POPS in 2006 and enriched hundreds of students in the SAD 9 and SAD 58 schools, will cap the evening with their unique blend of bluegrass and folk music.
"The POPS is grateful to Camden National Bank for their ongoing support as we continue to make improvements each year," notes Kingfield POPS President Donald Tranten. "As a founding sponsor and this year as an exclusive Partner, Camden National's generous support helps us keep our admission price the same this year, despite rising costs, and permits youth to attend the performance free of charge. The bank's contribution also helps us provide an opportunity for MSAD 58 and MSAD 9 students to experience live performances by professional musicians in school programs."
"We're delighted to be partnering with the POPS," says Camden National Bank President & CEO Greg Dufour. "We enjoy being a part of this growing, family-friendly event that provides cultural entertainment for the community and a tourist draw for local businesses."
The gates open at 4 p.m. when the first performance will begin. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, low-back chairs and picnics to enjoy the beauty of the western mountains.
Tickets for adults are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate; admission for youth 17 and under who are accompanied by an adult is free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Camden National Bank
