Camden National Bank Strengthens Business Banking Teams with Recent Additions, Promotion

Seasoned executives add depth and breadth to bank’s commercial capabilities 


September 8, 2016 – Camden National Bank would like to announce the recent addition of two veteran Maine bankers, James Edwards and John C. Everett, most recently from People’s United Bank and KeyBank, respectively, to its Portland business banking team as well as the promotion of Scott Fernald to senior vice president, commercial banking officer, overseeing its Downeast operations.

“We are very pleased to have both James and John join the commercial team and to announce Scott’s promotion,” said Tim Nightingale, executive vice president, senior lending officer at Camden National Bank. “Each of these bankers has a strong history of financial expertise in their respective regions and brings with them an understanding of the local market, as well as a history of building strong customer relationships, that will allow us to deliver smart, customized financing solutions to support businesses throughout the state.” 

James Edwards has joined the Treasury Management team as senior vice president and Treasury Management sales advisor, assisting new and existing treasury management and government banking customers. In his role, Edwards will help to manage new and existing treasury management and government banking relationships throughout the Southern Maine region and help these corporate clients with their banking needs.

A graduate of Husson College and a native of southern Maine, Edwards has 20 years of experience in financial services and most recently served as Senior Government Banking and Finance Officer for Maine and Southern New Hampshire for People’s United Bank. He currently resides in Gorham with his family and is a board member of the Portland Children’s Dyslexia Center.


John C. Everett has joined the Commercial Banking team as senior vice president, commercial banking officer, serving as a primary point of contact for new and existing commercial business customers and assisting them with day-to-day processes and tasks to help make their banking experience as seamless as possible. In his role, Everett will work with the Commercial Banking team to tailor products and services that better meet the banking needs of each client, address any challenges they face, and help them achieve their financial goals. He will assist customers in the greater Portland area as well as southern Maine and New Hampshire.

Everett has more than 35 years of banking experience and most recently served as Vice President and Relationship Manager, Middle Market for KeyBank, NA. A resident of Cape Elizabeth, he is active in the local community, serving as a teacher for Junior Achievement in the elementary schools and on the Development Committee for Spurwink Services, a nationally accredited nonprofit offering behavioral health and education services for children, adolescents, adults and families throughout Maine. John and his wife Joan have two sons, Burgess and Addison.

Scott FernaldScott Fernald has been promoted to senior vice president, commercial banking officer for the Downeast region. Based out of the Ellsworth Main Street banking center, Fernald will serve Hancock, Penobscot and Washington Counties and help businesses from Bucksport to Calais.

Fernald previously served as vice president, commercial loan officer out of the downtown Camden location and helped develop new business by analyzing markets and credit requests, managing customer relationships, and representing the Bank at key functions in the community. As resident of Northport, he looks forward to returning to Ellsworth with his wife Kelly and children, Morgan and Cole.

A graduate of the University of Maine at Machias, Fernald was a “Who’s Who Among American College and University Students” award recipient and graduated Cum Laude. He has 20 years of experience in banking and seven years of commercial lending experience. Scott has been actively involved in the Rockland Rotary Club, and in 2015, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow and was recognized with the Leadership Award for his service as the club’s Secretary, Sargent-at-Arms, a board member, and a regular volunteer.
