Charitable Giving Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in our charitable giving program at Camden National Bank. Our financial institution has a rich history of independent community banking. With 64 banking centers, we are proud to serve the financial needs of customers in coastal, downeast, western, central and eastern Maine.

As a company, we have always viewed our charitable giving as a pledge of our social responsibility. Whether through the in-kind donation of volunteer time or direct financial support, our giving is based on the belief that our vitality as a commercial bank depends on the well-being of the towns where we live and work. To accomplish this, we consider the areas in which we believe the most critical needs exist and where the company's resources can have the most favorable impact on the communities we serve. As such, our giving is focused in three key areas.

Areas of Corporate Giving

Economic Development

At Camden National Bank, we believe that investing in our communities has significant impact. We look to support those endeavors that promote economic vitality within our markets. These activities include local and regional events that are focused on stimulating and sustaining the business marketplace and which emphasize the revitalization of downtown and business districts. In addition, we support education-related activities that assist in fostering a business knowledge base for youth as well as for the existing workforce.

Community Services

Camden National Bank primarily supports community services through its partnership with organizations such as United Way and affordable housing and home buying programs in the communities we serve. We offer help to organizations through employee volunteer efforts and direct corporate contributions.

Youth Opportunities

We believe that creating empowering opportunities for our youth will help ensure continuation of the quality of life we value in Maine. We routinely look to support activities and initiatives that provide resources for the education of Maine children. We offer the time and talents of our employees for training and financial literacy, sponsoring athletic programs that promote teamwork, and supporting alternative schooling and job creation programs. We make sure the legacy our children leave behind will be a rich one.

Eligibility for Corporate Giving

Camden National Bank contributions include program grants or sponsorships, capital campaign pledges and in-kind support when appropriate. We do not fund annual giving or endowment campaigns.

Only nonprofit organizations designated as tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)3 are eligible.

Our company policy and budget limitations determine our ability to meet the demands for all the requests we receive. We also specifically exclude the following from our scope of giving:

  • Individuals, including scholarships or travel-related expenses
  • Political organizations
  • Religious organizations
  • National organizations or campaigns
  • Organizations outside our market areas

Timing and Procedures

Proposals from qualifying organizations are accepted throughout the year, and our donations committee meets monthly to review all requests on an individual basis. The Camden National Bank Board of Directors may review proposals that have been processed for further consideration. Generally, we will respond to all proposals in writing within four to six weeks of receipt.
